Setting Up a MetaMask Wallet and Connecting to BNB Smart Chain Testnet
In this tutorial, we’ll walk through how to set up a MetaMask wallet and connect it to the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) testnet.
Step 1: Download and Install MetaMask
- Visit the MetaMask website.
- Download the MetaMask browser extension. (In this example, the Brave browser is used, but any Chromium-based browser will work.)
- Once installed, open the extension and click “Create a Wallet.”
Step 2: Create Your Wallet and Secure the Recovery Phrase
- Agree to the terms and create a password.
- MetaMask will prompt you to save your secret recovery phrase. It is highly recommended to store this offline (e.g., on paper or a hardware wallet) rather than online, to prevent unauthorized access.
- Confirm that you've secured your recovery phrase to proceed with wallet creation.
Step 3: Add the BNB Smart Chain Testnet Manually
By default, MetaMask only includes the Ethereum Mainnet. To use the BNB Smart Chain testnet, follow these steps:
- Click “Add Network.”
- Scroll down and select “Add a Network Manually.”
- Enter the following details:
- Network Name: Binance Smart Chain Testnet
- New RPC URL: (Get it from Binance Academy)
- Chain ID: 97
- Currency Symbol: BNB
- Block Explorer URL: (Also from Binance Academy)
Paste the correct values into the form and click “Save.”
Step 4: Request Test Tokens from the BSC Faucet
- Copy your new wallet address from MetaMask.
- Visit the Binance Smart Chain Faucet.
- Paste your address and request test tokens (e.g., 0.1 BNB).
- After a few seconds, you’ll see the tokens reflected in your MetaMask wallet.
Recap
In this video, we:
- Created a MetaMask wallet.
- Secured the recovery phrase (preferably offline).
- Added the Binance Smart Chain testnet.
- Obtained test BNB tokens via the faucet.
You're now ready to start experimenting with Web3 development on the BSC testnet.
